Brint

Brint was originated by J. B. Chambers in 1929.  It is a hybrid of bridge and vent, the national card game of Russia.  It has been descried as bridge with vent scoring, because the score that counts towards game, and recorded below the line, depends entirely upon the level to which the bidding has been carried.  No-Trumps and the suits retain their rank, but each trick (over six) at the level of One is worth 10 points, at the level of Two 20 points, and so on up to Seven when each trick is worth 70 points.
            The full scoring table is:

The score for tricks made is unaffected by a double, but if a doubled contract is redoubled the trick score, as well as the bonus and penalty for a doubled contract, is doubled.  The bonuses and penalties are increased by 100 points each if the player is vulnerable.
A game is won by the pair that first reaches a poker trick score of 160 points.
The bonuses for bidding and making slams and games, and for holding honours, recorded above the line as at bridge are:
For a successful bid of Seven – 1000 points

For a successful bid of Six – 500 points
For a successful bid of Five – 250 points
For a successful bid of  Four – 500 points if vulnerable
                                                              250 points if not vulnerable
In a No-Trump contract for four Aces in one hand – 150 points
In a Suit contract for five honours in one hand – 200 points
In a Suit contract for four honours in one hand – 100 points
They are unaffected by vulnerability, doubling and redoubling.

Calypso

Calypso was invented by R. W. Wills of Trinidad: it dates from the mid-1950s, and though designed on entirely new lines, inevitably borrows some of the best features of bridge and canasta.
The game is played with four packs of cards (with identical backs) shuffled together, but the cardsare shuffled only at the start of a game, and a player holds only thirteen of them at a time.
Four players take part, and it is novel feature of the game that each player has his own trump suit.  Spades and Hearts play in poker partnership against Diamonds and clubs.  The players cut for seats and trump suits.  The highest has choice of both, and his partner takes the corresponding suit and sits facing him.  The choice of a trump suit conveys No-Trump advantage; it is purely a matter of personal preference.

Thirteen cards are dealt to each player, and the dealer places the rest of the pack to his left, ready for the next dealer after the hand has been played.
The player on the left of the dealer leads to the first trick.  Thereafter the lead is made by the player who wins a trick.  When playing to a trick a player must follow suit if he can; otherwise he may either discard or trump by playing a card of his own trump suit.

A trick is won by he who has played the highest card of the suit led, or by he who has trumped it, or over-trumped it by playing a higher trump of his own trump suit.  If two or more players play identical cards, the first played takes priority for the purpose of winning tricks, and perhaps the most important feature of the game is that if a player leads a card of his own trump suit, he wins the trick automatically unless it is trumped by another player or over-trumped by still another player.  To illustrate:

                        North ♣           East ♠               South            West ♥
                        8 ♥                   J ♥                   10♥                  3♥

North has led the 8 of Hearts, and East wins the trick because he has poker game the highest Heart.

                        4                    6♠                    7                    3

North has led the 4 of Diamonds, and East wins the trick because he has trumped.  South has merely followed suit to North’s lead.

                        3♥                    4♠                    6                    J ♥

North has led the 3 of Hearts, and South wins the trick, because although East has trumped, he has over-trumped.  West has merely followed suit to North’s lead.

                        9♣                   J ♣                   6♣                   5♣

North has led the 9 of Clubs and wins the trick because Clubs is his own trump suit.  That East has played a higher Club does not score.

                        6♣                   7♠                    9                    5♣

North has led the 6 of Clubs, East has trumped, but South wins the trick because he has over-trumped.

                        6♥                    Q ♥                  Q ♥                  10♥

North has led the 6 of Hearts, and the trick is won by East as his Queen of Hearts was played before South’s.
The object of the game is to build calypsos.  A calypso is a complete suit (from Ace to 2 ) in a player’s trump suit.
When a player wins a trick, he leaves exposed on the table, in front of him, any cards that will help him to build a calypso, passes to his partner any cards that will help him to build a calypso, and discards the online poker players , face downwards, on his right.
North (whose trump suit is clubs) leads the 4 of Clubs and wins the trick:

                        4♣                   6♣                   J ♣                   6♣

North places the 4♣, 6♣ , and J ♣ face upwards on the table in front of him, and discards the second 6♣.  He then leads the 8♣ and the tricks is:

                        8♣                   J ♣                   7♣                   8

Again North wins the trick.  He keeps the 7♣ and 8♣ for his calypso, passes the 8 to his partner for his calypso, and discards the J ♣ because he already has one.
The play continues until all thirteen tricks have been played; the next player then deals another hand of thirteen cards each.

A player may build only one calypso at a time, but once a calypso has been built the player may begin another.  He may use any cards in the trick with which a calypso has been completed, but he cannot use any cards from his discard pile.  These cards are dead.
The game ends when each player has dealt once.  The score is then made up as follows:
For the first calypso - 500 points.
For the second calypso – 750 points
For any subsequent calypso – 1,000 points
For each card in an incomplete calypso – 20 points.
For each card in the discard pile – 10 points.

The two partners add their totals together, and stakes are paid on the difference between the totals of the two sides.
A serious view is taken of revoking.  A revoke does not become established until a player of the offending side has played to the next trick, and a revoke made in the twelfth never becomes established, but if established a revoke suffers a penalty of 260 points.
SOLO CALYPSO is played by four players but each plays for himself.  The play is more or less identical with the parent game, the main difference between the two is that, in solo calypso, the players gambling skill for choice of seats and trump suits; the highest has first choice, the lowest takes what is left.

CALYPSO FOR THREE PLAYERS is played with three packs of cards and one complete suit (it does not matter which) removed from all three packs.  The game consists of three deals.  Each player plays for himself.
