BRINT

BRINT  was originated by J.B. Chambers in 1929.  It is a hybrid of Bridge and Vint, the National card game of Russia.

THE PLAY

Brint is played in the same way as Bridge.  It has been described as Bridge with Vint scoring, because the score that counts towards game, and recorded below the line, depends entirely upon the level to which the bidding has been carried.  No-Trumps and the suits retain their rank, but each trick (over six) at the level of on his worth 10 points, at the level of Two 20 points, and so on up to Seven when each trick is worth 70 points. The full poker scoring table is set out at the top of the next page.

The score for tricks made is unaffected by a double, but it a doubled contract  is redoubled the trick score, as well as the bonus and penalty for a doubled contract, is doubled.  The bonuses and penalties are increased by 100 points each if the player is vulnerable.

A game is won by the pair that first reaches a trick score of 160 points.  The bonuses for bidding and making slams and poker games, and for holding honours, recorded above the line as at Bridge, are set out at the foot of the next page.
