Fourth Street

1. What is one of the biggest mistakes you can make in stud eight-or-better ?
Ans : To call a bet on fourth street when you catch a bad card and your opponents catch a second good low card.

2. Why is this such a big error ?
Ans : Because that second low card must help your opponent in one way or another.

3. Suppose you are high and a couple of your opponents catch another low card that is close in rank to their third-street cards. ?
Ans : Fold.

4. Why ?
Ans : Because you might be against more than one four straight, as well as a low draw.

5. What if the pot is heads up, your opponent catches another low card close in rank to this ?
Ans : You can take a card off.

6. In a multiway pot, suppose you hold three low cards, there is a high and against you, and someone has raised with a wheel card up, showing early strength. That player then catches a small card close in rank his door card, and you catch a seven or an eight. What should you do ?
Ans : Unless you also have a straight or flush draw, you almost always should fold.

7. Example ?
Ans : You have 7 6 3 3 ,and an opponent has a hand like ? ? 5 3. The high bets, and your opponent holding the low hand now raises. You must muck your hand.

8. Suppose you start with a small three straight and catch close to perfect.  What should you do ?
Ans : Bet the hand for value.

9. If you are playing for a high hand, and on fourth street your cards start to fall a bit dead, what should you do?
Ans : It is probably best to get out when you are looking at an opponent with two low cards.

10. Why ?
Ans : Your hand is now a playing loser, as opposed to a percentage loser.

11. What should you do if your cards stay live, but you catch bad on fourth street and are against two opponents who have both caught low straight cards to go along with their low third-street cards ?
Ans : You probably should get out.

12. What if your opponent catches another low card that is a straight flush card ?
Ans : You might went to bet. Raise, or check-raising and try to force the low hand that caught bad to fold.
